Spirit of the Gulf Coast's mission is to protect the wetlands of the deep south. As part of a volunteer expedition (team of 5), we trekked down to the Gulf at the heart of the BP oil spill in Grand Isle, Louisiana to listen and bring back the stories of people who are dealing with the aftermath. Their stories were to be used as background for a town hall discussion on alternative energy sources and an art exhibit of our journey. What we learned about the people, the ecosystem, and the handling of the accident was surprising on many fronts. I would love to do this type of field research and ethnography full-time, on behalf of a more profitable green nonprofit. Below - I’m interviewing Katrina survivor, other links for the expedition:
